Amanda Brodie Stenlund is a painter living in Chicago and painting everywhere she can. She studied art at Furman University in South Carolina, then moved to Chicago where she worked as an editor and copywriter at the Art Institute of Chicago and Chicago History Museum.
A traditional, realist painter with oil and acrylic, Amanda focuses on composition first to give good focus to the thing that caught her eye, then she figures out how to balance shape, value, color, line, texture, and negative space. It’s a puzzle putting those elements together, and she loves puzzles. Amanda has a practical approach to painting and teaching fueled by her excitement over materials and techniques and the desire to just get it right. “Sing, sweat, swear and try again!” said painter William Merritt Chase, and Amanda couldn’t agree more.
