Nancy Ramsey approaches art as an experiment, beginning much of her work through studying maps, the model or en plein air and exploring ways to represent the world. Nancy builds up and then cuts into layers of paint material as she melds the images in her world with those in her mind to create a satisfying finished product. The resulting abstract paintings are vibrant and complex, featuring familiar elements alongside others that are more abstract.

Nancy studied art in school, then continued to take classes for thirty years at the Art League and other institutions. Nancy taught in Fairfax County Public Schools from 1993 to 2016. After a lifetime of pursuing art as a hobby, she turned her focus to working as a professional artist. In addition to teaching children, Nancy has taught adult classes for FCPS, GMU, The Little House, in her studio and online.

Nancy currently has a studio and gallery space in Lovettsville, VA. Previously, she was at The Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, VA. She exhibits widely and has been juried into shows in the mid-Atlantic and West Coast. She has won awards and been invited to jury local shows.
