Joan Tycko is an award-winning illustrator and painter with over 20 years of experience in the visual arts.

She received a Master of Arts in medical and biological illustration from The Johns Hopkins University and has had work published internationally as a medical illustrator and animator.  Her illustrations have been featured in a number of books and in research, including a 2011-2012 study on children’s racial biases conducted by Dr. Melanie Killen and commissioned by Anderson Cooper at CNN AC360.  The research study aired in April, 2012, and won an Emmy Award for Outstanding News and Analysis, October 1, 2013.

Joan also teaches painting and drawing for kids and adults.  She works in a wide variety of media and her paintings and drawings have been shown in numerous shows locally. Joan also creates commissioned pieces, which allows her to do more of some of her favorite work in portraiture and landscape painting.
